Sharon Speedway
Excitement Level Increases For Snowmobile Races.
After unseasonably warm weather melted the snow over New Years, you knew it would only be a matter of time before old man winter returned to eastern Ohio. A pair of recent snowstorms have blanketed Sharon Speedway, and with cold and snowy weather in the extended forecast every day, it looks very promising for the inaugural “Circle Track Showdown” Snowmobile Races to be held on Saturday, January 22. Race time is 11 a.m.
The competing classes will include the 400cc and under stock, 401-500cc stock, 501-600cc stock, 601-700cc stock, 701-800cc stock, 801+cc stock and mods, and the vintage class. The three competing age groups per class will include 12-14 year olds, 15-17 year olds, and 18 and older.
Any sleds with engine modifications will be grouped with the 801+cc class. This class may be split further on race day depending on the participation level. The same holds with the vintage class.
Helmets are required. There will be no cash prizes for this inaugural event as winners will receive trophies only. Hay bales will be setup around the 3/8-mile track.
“The response since the initial press release went out has been incredible,” stated second year GM Dave Willoughby. “We’ve been getting calls and e-mails from all over Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. This is something we’ve always wanted to try. If all goes well and the support is there, this could lead to bigger and better future events. We look forward to everyone’s support and hope it breaks the winter doldrums with a little January fun!”
There will be a $20 registration fee per class. Registration forms are available on the website at www.sharonspeedway.com. Pre-registration is highly recommended to save time on race day.
