“SPRINGDURO 150 ENDURO RETURNS ON MARCH 26 ALONG WITH OPEN PRACTICE

By Mike Leone

January 27, 2011

(Hartford, OH)… After a very successful “Circle Track Showdown Snowmobile Races last week, Sharon Speedway is gearing up for its next event as part of its 82nd anniversary season. Coming up on Saturday, March 26 will be the second annual “Springduro 150 featuring a 150-lap Enduro event along with an open practice for all divisions.

“We have a great facility and it’s important we use it for multiple purposes and various types of events, explained second year GM Dave Willoughby. “Last year’s “Springduro went over well so we decided to bring it back and incorporate our annual pre-season open practice with this event. We were thrilled with last Saturday’s snowmobile races and we’ll have more of them in the future.

Last year’s inaugural “Springduro 150 was won by Andy Sweetland, an Enduro veteran and E-Mod racer, from Spartansburg, Pa. Sweetland came from the 39th starting position to capture the $1,000 prize. The event was contested on a balmy, unseasonably warm late spring-like day.

Entries have already started coming into the Sharon Speedway office. Drivers are urged to register as soon as possible as car numbers/starting position will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. The rules and entry form are posted at http://www.sharonspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/2011SpringduroRules.pdf.

The open practice will actually get the day underway starting at 10 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m., while the Enduro will take the green flag at 2:30. The open practice will be the first of six monthly practices held in 2011. The other practices will all be held on Wednesday nights on April 27, May 25, June 22, July 27, and August 24. The practices are open to all cars whether the class races at Sharon or not, and provide an excellent opportunity for valuable track time.

Adult grandstand admission for the March 26 event is just $7 for adults and pit passes are $20. More information will be released in the coming weeks on this opening auto racing event for the 2011 season.

The first “Friday Night Thunder program kicks off on April 1 with the new PA/OH Outlaw Sprint Warrior division along with the Mod Lites, Econo Mods, Micro Sprints, and Sportsman Dwarf Cars at 7:30 p.m. The next day, the $1,500 to-win annual Open Stock Car event will take place along with the STAR’s Mod Lites and Mini Stocks for $300 to-win. Rules and pre-entry forms for the Open Stock Cars are available on the website.

The first “Steel Valley Thunder program takes to the track on Saturday, April 9 featuring the Big-Block Modifieds, FASTRAK Late Models, E-Mods, Stock Cars, and Mini Stocks. Race time is 7 p.m.
