“SPRINGDURO 150 ENDURO & OPEN PRACTICE SET FOR SATURDAY
March 22, 2011
(Hartford, OH)…After a long, cold and snowy winter, the sound of race cars will return to Sharon Speedway this Saturday afternoon, March 26 for the second annual “Springduro 150 Enduro and open practice. This is actually the second event of the 82nd anniversary season as snowmobile races were held back on January 22. Open practice will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. followed by the Enduro at 2:30.
“Despite such a wicked winter we’re set to go Saturday, stated second year GM Dave Willoughby. “Last weekend’s warm and dry weather really allowed us to get the facility back in shape from all of the rain and snow we’ve had since December. The track itself and the grounds have come around nicely. The snowmobile races, which will return next winter, and the Enduro are just additional ways we can make use of our facility.
Last year’s inaugural “Springduro 150 was won by Andy Sweetland, an Enduro veteran and E-Mod racer, from Spartansburg, Pa. Sweetland came from the 39th starting position to capture the $1,000 prize. Drivers not registered are still able to participate in the Enduro by showing up Saturday. Car number and starting position will be assigned in a first come, first serve manner. The rules and entry form are posted at http://www.sharonspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/2011SpringduroRules.pdf.
Adult grandstand admission for Saturday is just $7 for adults and pit passes are $20. Pits open at 9 a.m. with the grandstands opening at 10.
In one week, the official start to the 2011 racing season will begin with a doubleheader of action both Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2. The first “Friday Night Thunder program kicks off on with the new Ti22 Performance Outlaw Sprint Warrior division along with the Joe’s Radiator and Unitech Frame Straightening Mod Lites, Summit Racing Equipment Econo Mods, Micro Sprints, and the Unitech Frame Straightening & Joe’s Radiator Sportsman Dwarf Cars at 7:30 p.m.
The next night, the $1,500 to-win fourth annual Open Stock Car event will take place along with the STAR’s Mod Lites and the Presidential Lawn Care Mini Stocks for $300 to-win. Payoff, rules, and pre-entry forms for the Open Stock Cars are available on the website. The $100 Bud’s Towing Service fast qualifier and lap money for the 40-lap Stock Car feature will be offered. Already $1,340 in lap money has been collected. Additional lap money along with a dash sponsor is still being sought. If interested, contact Debbie Burns-Polk at djcapolk@roadrunner.com or call 330-448-2349 (home) or 330-647-9419 (cell). Rain date is Sunday, April 3.
The first “Steel Valley Thunder program takes to the track on Saturday, April 9 featuring the Governor Insurance Agency Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply FASTRAK Late Models, Ainsley 500 Heating & Cooling E-Mods, Gibson Agency Stock Cars, and the Presidential Lawn Care Mini Stocks. Race time is 7 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, April 10.
“We’re really pleased with the number of pre-registrations we’ve received for 2011, explained Willoughby. “We’re expecting solid car counts in all of our weekly divisions and by the rate of return of registrations, it just confirms our thinking.
