RAIN WINS FOR 2ND STRAIGHT NIGHT; FASTRAK NE LATE MODEL TOURING SERIES EVENT TO BE COMPLETED AUG 13

By Mike Leone

July 23, 2011

(Hartford, OH)…After a sunny and sultry day at Sharon Speedway, racing got underway on Saturday night; however, heavy rains hit the speedway during the last heat event. With it being apparent that rain would continue to fall for the next couple hours, the decision was made to cancel the event. Sunday’s normal rain date is unable to be used due to the Northwest PA Truck & Tractor Pull that’s scheduled.

It was the first Saturday night rainout since May 14- the same weekend both Friday and Saturday night’s events were rained out. The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series event will be picked up with the B mains and completed on Saturday, August 13 along with the Sweeney Chevrolet GM 604 engine giveaway and a complete new Weekly Series event. For all others, rain checks will be good for the remainder of the season except the August 13 and September 17 specials.

Barris Supply FASTRAK Late Model heat winners were Russ Dunn, Tom Snyder, Jr., Steve Dixon, John Volpe, and Kyle Lukon. Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Car heat winners were Gary Robinson and Mike Clark. In the Presidential Lawn Care Mini Stocks, Rob McElhaney and Ken Koby II were victorious in their heats. Kevin Bolland won the first Governor Insurance Agency Big-Block Modifieds, while the second heat race was halted due to the rain.

There will be an open practice on Wednesday with gates opening at 4 p.m. and practice 5 until dark. Pit passes are $20 and the grandstands are free.

Sharon will try again next weekend for another doubleheader. Friday, July 29 will feature the 358 Modifieds, Summit Racing Equipment Econo Mods, Joe’s Radiator/Uni-Tech Frame Straightening Mod Lites, Micro Sprints, Uni-Tech Frame Straightening/Joe’s Radiator Sportsman Dwarf Cars, and the Mini Late Models. Race time is 7:30 p.m.

Then on Saturday, July 30 it’s “Steel Valley Thunder presented by the Globe Restaurant at Truck World featuring the Governor Insurance Agency Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply FASTRAK Late Models, Ainsley 500 Heating & Cooling E-Mods, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, and the Presidential Lawn Care Mini Stocks. Race time is 7 p.m.

Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
