SHARON ANNOUNCES WEEKLY DIVISIONS & PURSES FOR 2012; DISCOUNTED PRE-REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

By Mike Leone

November 28, 2011

(Hartford, OH)…Coming off one of the most successful seasons in many years, Sharon Speedway has begun to set its sights on the 2012 racing season, which will actually get underway on January 7 and 21 with snowmobile races followed by the 2011 awards banquet and dinner at the Yankee Lake Ballroom on February 4.

For the second year in a row, the Saturday night “Steel Valley Thunder program will include the Big-Block Modifieds, FASTRAK Late Models, E-Mods, Stock Cars, and Mini Stocks. The 2-barrel Econo Mods, which were moved from the “Friday Night Thunder program over to Saturday nights in August, will join the weekly Saturday night lineup in 2012.

Sharon has also released its 2012 purse structures for its six divisions. The Big-Block Modifieds, FASTRAK Late Models, E-Mods, and Stock Cars will be on a three-tiered purse structure. No change has been made to the Mini Stocks, while the Econo Mods has been increased from second place on back.

Last year’s standard purse will be used for car counts of 14-23 for the top four divisions. If a full field or more is achieved, racers will see a higher purse structure highlighted by $1,200 to-win for the Mods, $750 to-win for FASTRAK, $100 to-start for the E-Mods, and $500 to-win for the Stock Cars in addition to other positions being increased! Once again, any time B mains are run, non-qualifiers will receive a free pit pass in addition to tow money! The purses are available on the website by clicking driver info and then purses or directly at www.sharonspeedway.com/drivers/purses.

“For the most we were very pleased with our car counts this past season, stated General Manager Dave Willoughby. “Our FASTRAK Late Model average count led the nation and the E-Mods was also the highest in the region as only one time we were under 22 cars. Those divisions could easily be using the higher structure many nights in 2012. The Econo Mods continue to grow and we expect even more this season. Our Big-Block Modified and Stock Car counts were down slightly; however, we did see counts pick up toward the end of the season, and I’m hoping these purses will give more incentive for racers to come out and support us.

The 2012 rules for all divisions will be posted soon. Drivers can get a head start and save $15 and time on opening night by pre-registering for the 2012 season. The form is available on the website and by clicking driver info and then registration or directly at www.sharonspeedway.com/drivers/registration. Registration forms will not be mailed out this season!

Fans and drivers should also be reminded that discounted season passes are available through January 2 and make great Christmas gifts for that hard to buy for race fan! A ticket form is available at www.sharonspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Season-pass-2012-order-form.pdf. Stay tuned for more information on the 2012 racing season.
