SHARON SIGNS ON AS DIRTCAR MEMBER SPEEDWAY FOR BIG-BLOCK MODIFIEDS IN 2012; POINT FUNDS, BONUS $$$, SPECIAL EVENT ANNOUNCEMENTS COMING SOON

January 18, 2012

(Hartford, OH)…For the first time in its illustrious history, the Big-Block Modifieds will run under the full DIRTcar sanction for the upcoming 2012 season at Sharon Speedway! The Hartford, Ohio oval will join Lernerville Speedway giving the western Pennsylvania/eastern Ohio region a Friday-Saturday DIRTcar Modified circuit for the first time ever.

Big-Block Modified racers at Sharon will now be able to run for DIRTcar points. In addition, there will be bonuses, point funds and special races between Lernerville and Sharon Speedways. More information on these exciting announcements will be released in the near future.

“I felt the timing was right to join DIRTcar, explained third year GM Dave Willoughby. “We looked at the program last year, but it just didn’t come together in time. It wasn’t long ago that there were five or six tracks running the Big-Block Modifieds weekly in our area, now we’re down to two. We want the Big-Block Modified division to survive just as much as the racers and fans do so we felt this was an important move. I’m excited about what we can do with Lernerville and the extra money and incentives that are out there for our racers to be part of the DIRTcar program. It’ll also put us in line with rules with the other DIRTcar speedways throughout the Northeast.

The DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds will open their season at Sharon on Saturday, April 7 when they will be joined by the FASTRAK Late Models, E-Mods, Stock Cars, Econo Mods, and Mini Stocks 7. An open practice has been scheduled for March 24 along with the “Springduro 150 Enduro.

Modified racers can get an early start to their season by participating in the Super DIRTcar Series events at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida February 22-25. For more information on the DIRTcar Modified program including rules, membership forms, tracks, and more check out their website at www.dirtcarump.com/rules/big-block-modified-rules.

The late Lou Blaney leads the all-time Big-Block Modified win list with 121 victories. Four-time and 2011 champion, Rex King, has moved into a tie for second with Bob Kraus at 39 wins. Jim Weller, Jr. sits fourth with 23 wins and leads former standout John Braymer by one. Active racers Jim Rasey and Kevin Bolland are tied for sixth with 18 wins a piece.

Sharon will hold the 2011 Awards Banquet & Dinner on Saturday, February 4 at Yankee Lake Ballroom on State Route 7 just north of Brookfield, Ohio. A reminder that the ticket deadline is January 21. Ticket order forms and registration forms for these events are on our website at www.sharonspeedway.com.

Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
