(Hartford, OH)…For the third time this winter, Sharon Speedway has been forced to postpone the scheduled Saturday (February 11) snowmobile races due to the lack of snow. The event will not be rescheduled.
The “Circle Track Showdown Snowmobile Races presented by JohnnyK’s Powersports scheduled for January 7 and 14 were also cancelled and it appeared the same would happen on January 21, but two different snowstorms late that week provided enough snow to have the event. The mild winter persisted through the end of January and early February and despite some light snow falling today (Wednesday), not much accumulation is occurring and a warm-up is expected for Thursday and much of Friday.
“This winter has been something else, stated third year GM Dave Willoughby. “Last year’s event was tremendous, but this winter has been so mild that holding snowmobile racing at any point this winter has been next to impossible. With the race season a little more than a month away and dirt scheduled to be hauled in, we aren’t going to be able to reschedule any more snowmobile events this winter. I have to thank JohnnyK’s for coming on board and sponsoring these events. We’ll try again next winter.
Up next will be the “Springduro 150 Enduro and open practice on Saturday, March 24. Practice will be open to cars of any kind from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by the $1,000 to-win Enduro at 2:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is just $7 and pit passes are $20. A registration form is available on the website at www.sharonspeedway.com.
“Steel Valley Thunder will begin for the new season on Saturday, April 7 featuring the Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply FASTRAK Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment E-Mods, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the Deforest Used Auto Parts Mini Stocks.
Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
