“SPRINGDURO 150 ENDURO & OPEN PRACTICE NOW SUNDAY

By Mike Leone

March 21, 2012

(Hartford, OH)…After hosting the second annual “Circle Track Showdown Snowmobile Races two months ago, Sharon Speedway is gearing up for its next event as part of its 83rd anniversary season. Coming up this Sunday, March 25 will be the third annual “Springduro 150 featuring a 150-lap Enduro event along with an open practice for all divisions.

“We have a great facility and it’s important we use it for multiple purposes and various types of events, explained second year GM Dave Willoughby. “Last year we coupled the “Springduro with an open practice and it went over well despite the frigid conditions. We had 40 cars for practice even though the temperature really never even above freezing. I’ve had a lot of response about practice so I expect a good turnout.

The inaugural “Springduro 150 was won by Andy Sweetland, an Enduro veteran and E-Mod racer, from Spartansburg, Pa. Sweetland came from the 39th starting position to capture the $1,000 prize. Last year, Enduro ace Tim Gillette of Linesville, Pa. nailed down the $1,000 victory.

A total of 38 drivers have pre-entered with some additional cars expected. Several racers are in the field led by pole-sitter Brent Johnson. Those still wishing to participate can go to the SharonSpeedway.com, click on Driver Info and Rules and download the form or at the following link directly http://www.sharonspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/2012springduro.pdf.

The open practice will actually get the day underway starting at 1 PM and will continue until 4 p.m., while the Enduro will take the green flag at 4:30. The open practice will be the first of six monthly practices held in 2012. The other practices will all be held on Wednesday evenings on April 25, May 23, June 27, July 25, and August 29. The practices are open to all cars whether the class races at Sharon or not, and provide an excellent opportunity for valuable track time.

Grandstand admission for the March 25 event is just $7 and pit passes are $20. Students 13 and under are always free at Sharon Speedway.

After a week off, the 2012 regular season will begin on Saturday, April 7 with the kickoff of the “Steel Valley Thunder featuring the Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply FASTRAK Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment E-Mods, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the DeForest Used Auto Parts Mini Stocks. Race time is 7 p.m.

After another “Steel Valley Thunder program on April 14, the season’s first special event will take to Sharon Speedway as the Super Late Models return for their only scheduled appearance in 2012. The event will be sanctioned by the United Late Model Series (ULMS) and will offer $3,000 to-win. The Open Stock Cars will run in their biggest event of the season with $1,500 on the line. The Econo Mods and Mini Stocks will also be in competition.

The $35 pre-entry for the Open Stock Car event closes on April 7. After April 7, the fee goes to $50.
