Steel Valley Thunder back on tap Saturday; RAD Poster Contest plus Youth Sports & Scout Night

(Hartford, OH)…After two straight rainy Saturdays that wiped out “Steel Valley Thunder� on April 14 and the ULMS Late Model/Open Stock Car special last week, Sharon Speedway, fans and racers are hoping for better weather this Saturday (April 28) as another installment of “Steel Valley Thunder� returns featuring the Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply FASTRAK Late Models, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, Summit Racing Equipment Econo Mods, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks. Race time is 7 p.m.
Saturday’s promotions are RAD Racing Poster Contest Night along with free admission for scouts and youth sport participants in uniform.  The National Center for Prevention and Research Solutions, the RAD Racing Team, RAD Racer Amanda Stiffler, and Sharon Speedway are hosting RAD Night at the Races Saturday. For over 20 years, the RAD Racing Team and Race Against Drugs have supported drug free youth through their partnership with motorsports.
RAD Racer Amanda Stiffler and Sharon Speedway are inviting students in elementary, middle/junior high, and high school to participate in the RAD at the Races Poster Contest. Â All youth participating in the poster contest will receive free entry to the event.Â
A winner from each school level will be selected and may be published in the Stay on Track Activity Book that will be distributed to children across the country in 2012.  All winners will be recognized on the RAD Racing Team website at www.radracingteam.org.   Posters will be judged on creativity, application of racing theme, level of detail, originality and clarity. Entry forms are available at http://www.sharonspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/RAD-Activity-Book-Poster-Contest-Entry-Form.pdfApril 7opening night winners and early point leaders are Kevin Bolland-DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, George Kowatic-FASTRAK Late Models, Brent Rhebergen-E-Mods, Paul Davis-Stock Cars, Brad Blackshear-Econo Mods, and Jim Haefke, Jr.-Mini Stocks.
“It’s frustrating when we had such nice weather in the late winter and its nice during the week then rains on Saturday,� stated third year GM Dave Willoughby. “We had such a great opening night now everyone is hungry to get back to the track, but Mother Nature just hasn’t cooperated. Hopefully we’ll be able to get our show in Saturday.�
Pits open at 4 p.m. with grandstands at 5. Race time is 7 p.m. Adult admission is $13 and pit passes are $25. Students 13 and under are always free.
As stated before, last week’s rained out ULMS/Open Stock Car event has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 6. The Econo Mods and Mini Stocks will also be in action.
Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
