(Hartford, OH)…Sharon Speedway attempted to complete night two of the Bill Emig Memorial on Sunday at Sharon Speedway. After a successful kickoff on Saturday to the two-day affair, Mother Nature had other ideas on Sunday forcing the feature events to be postponed.Â
Despite just a 20-30% chance of thunderstorms, storms fired up in the heating of the day during the afternoon. The storms went all around Sharon Speedway with the track getting only a brief five minute shower; however, lightning took out part of the speedway’s power including the phone lines. With clear skies to the north and west and with the power company expected to restore power by early evening, the decision was made to press on with the program.Â
The races got underway and power was restored; however, storms that formed in Michigan dropped south and nailed the speedway with a heavy downpour just as the first feature was set to come on to the speedway. After trying to get the track run in for a couple hours with the help of the racers but to no avail with the heavy humidity in the air, the unfortunate decision was made to postpone the remainder of the program.Â
The following make-up schedule has been announced: June 2 Econo Mods and Mini Stocks, August 4 DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, August 18 FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series, and September 14 Open Stocks. Even though the standard policy is that rain checks are void when make-up features are run, management decided to allow fans to use their rain checks for an $8 discount at any remaining event due to their patience.Â
Regular “Steel Valley Thunderâ€? action resumes this Saturday, June 2 with the Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply FASTRAK Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment E-Mods, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks. It’s the rescheduled RAD Racing Night plus it’s Twin-State Auto Racing Club Night. Gates open at 5 with racing at 7.Â
Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
