RAIN CHECK POLICY CLARIFIED; DESPITE MAY 27’S FEATURES TO BE MADE UP AN $8 DISCOUNT TO BE OFFERED TO EVERYONE

By Mike Leone

May 29, 2012

(Hartford, OH)…A thunderstorms hit Sharon Speedway on Sunday evening just prior to the feature events getting underway. After trying for a couple hours to get the track back to racing conditions, the tough decision was made to postpone the features due to track conditions not being conducive to racing.

As the rain check policy states (see below), the general procedure would be to hold the make-up events in the following weeks with rain checks being void. Sunday’s make-up features will take place with the Econo Mods and Mini Stocks being made up this Saturday, June 2, the DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds on August 4, the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series on August 18, and the Open Stocks on Friday, September 14.

It was also announced to the fans on Sunday evening that management was offering general admission holders an $8 discount off any one remaining event for the 2012 season due to their patience in the matter. Management now has gone one step further to extend that offer to all pit pass purchasers as well.

“For whatever reason there was a lot of confusion and misunderstandings regarding the situation on Sunday, stated third year GM Dave Willoughby. “It’s pretty much an industry-standard that when it rains after the preliminaries, make-up features are run and rain checks are void. We had hoped the track would have run in so we could have resumed racing after the rains, but the heavy humidity just didn’t allow it to happen for safe racing. Due to the situation, we have decided to give everyone that attended, whether grandstand or pit, an $8 discount off any remaining 2012 event for their patience. I do want thank all of those racers that helped try to run the track in.

Sharon Speedway normal rain check policy: If races are cancelled during qualifying events (heat races or consolations) face value of that evening’s ticket will be honored at either one of the next two (2) weekly events. If a special event is scheduled during that two-week period, a rain check may be used to pay the difference between the face value of the ticket and the special event admission price. If qualifying events have been completed, no rain checks are honored. The event is considered complete, and features will be scheduled in the following weeks.

Sharon Speedway special event rain check policy: If races are cancelled during qualifying events (heat races, consolations or dashes), rain checks will be honored for the face value of the ticket at the rescheduled event. If the event is not rescheduled, the rain check may be redeemed for its face value at one of the next two (2) weekly events. If races are cancelled after qualifying events, no rain checks are honored. Rescheduling is at the discretion of the sanctioning body of the special event.

Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
