Saturday's (Jan 26) Snowmobile Races cancelled due to lack of snow

SNOWMOBILE RACES FOR SATURDAY, JANUARY 26 AT SHARON CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF SNOW
By Mike Leone

January 24, 2013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, OH)…Sharon Speedway has been forced to cancel Saturday’s (January 26) “Circle Track Showdown Snowmobile Races due to the lack of snow. The event will not be rescheduled. Those that pre-entered for the event will receive a refund.

Despite snow in the forecast every day this week and areas to the north getting hammered with lake effect snow, Sharon Speedway was spared receiving only dustings throughout the week While the inaugural event in 2011 was a homerun, last year it took three tries to barely get one event in thanks to two big snowstorms in the days leading up to the event. Another relatively mild and snow-free winter will keep this year’s event from happening altogether.

“We held out as long as we could hoping for the snow that they kept predicting, explained Sharon GM Dave Willoughby. “People have been calling and e-mailing in regards to the status on a daily basis and many travel from hours away to compete. Even though they are calling for a few inches of snow tomorrow, it just wouldn’t be enough. You can see the dirt on the speedway now. With the extending forecasting calling for above freezing temperatures for the next two weeks with highs in the 40s and near 50 for several days, and our banquet scheduled for February 2, we aren’t going to try again in February. We’ll give it a couple shots again next year.

The 84th anniversary season at Sharon Speedway will now get underway on Saturday, March 23 with an open practice from 10 AM to 2 PM followed by the $1,000 to-win “Springduro 150 Enduro at 2:30 PM. The “Steel Valley Thunder regular season gets underway on Saturday, April 6 featuring the Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply RUSH Late Models, Summit Equipment Modifieds, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks.

Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
