(Hartford, OH)…After three tries and being unable to get last year's event completed due to the mild and relatively snow-free weather, Sharon Speedway was able to hold the third annual "Circle Track Showdown" event presented by Johnny K's Powersports on a snowy and cold Saturday afternoon. Snowmobiles were part of the event once again and this year were joined by ATVs and Side-by-Sides for the first time ever.
The day got started with 16 three-lap heat races beginning around 11:30 a.m. and concluded around 3:30 p.m. after 14 different six-lap feature events. Counts included approximately 46 Snowmobiles, 26 ATVs and 8 Side-by-Sides. Sprint Car racers Brad Knab from New York and Jacob Gomola were in competition as well as Econo Mod driver Kevin Robinson.
Snowmobile feature victors were Tim Reese (Hubbard, OH)-Senior Vintage, Jeff Cann (Hubbard, OH)-400cc, Scott Hackett (Brookfield, OH)-401-500cc, Tyler Ochs (Lucinda, PA)-501-600cc and Vintage, Lee Luchette (Brookfield, OH)-601-700cc, Don Pizor (Brookfield, OH)-701-800cc, and Mark Preston (West Middlesex, PA)-801cc+.
ATV feature winners were Matt Carney (Vienna, OH)-400cc feature 1, Justin Hollabaugh (Sharpsville, PA)-400cc feature 2, Kevin VanZandt (Sligo, PA)-501-600cc, and Jon Fife (Girard, OH)-601cc+.
Taking feature wins in the Side-by-Sides were Ed Mueller (Masury, OH) and Lee Luchette (Brookfield, OH).
The day's best race was the 701-800cc Snowmobile feature where eventual winner Don Pizor and Joe Powell really went at it. The two raced side-by-side for most of the six-lap feature trading the lead back and forth with Pizor coming out on top with a last lap pass. After coming up short, Powell moved up and competed in the next feature with the 800cc+ Modified division, but took the day's hardest flip. Powell barrel-rolled in turn one with his sled suffering damage, but he was okay.
Ochs, who was the day's only multiple Snowmobile feature winner, has now competed in all three years' Snowmobile events. The 30-year-old ran a #19 Yamaha VMAX 540 sled. Luchette was able to pick up wins in both the Snowmobiles & Side-by-Sides!
The 2013 award banquet and dinner will be on Saturday, February 1 at the Yankee Lake (OH) Ballroom located on Route 7 just north of Brookfield. The "Springduro 150" Enduro paying $1,000 to-win and open practice will be held on Saturday, March 22.
