(Hartford, OH)…After completing seven straight Saturday night events, Sharon Speedway was off on July 12 due to the Trumbull County Fair and now suffered its second straight rain out. After sunny skies all day long, rain developed south of Cleveland and hit the speedway just as opening ceremonies were set to begin. With more rain forming off Lake Erie, the decision was made to cancel the racing program.
Ninety-eight race cars were in the pit area- the highest of the season for a normal six-division “Steel Valley Thunder program. Rain checks will be honored for face value for the remainder of the season.
Coming up this Wednesday (July 30) is the sixth annual “Lou Blaney Memorial featuring the season’s only appearance by “410 Sprint Cars as they’ll race for $5,000 to-win plus the BRP Big-Block Modified Tour for $2,000 to-win. Warm-ups begin at 6:10 p.m. followed by Sprint time trials and racing at 7. The rain date is Thursday. More information on the event along with advanced tickets are available at www.sharonspeedway.com.
Next Saturday (August 2) will be a “Steel Valley Thunder program for the “Bill Kirila Memorial featuring the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply RUSH Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks along with another appearance by the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Sportsman Modifieds. Note: the Modifieds were originally not on the schedule, but have been added. Race time is 7 p.m.
The “Johnny Zdelar Memorial on Saturday, August 9 will be a full six-division program with increased monies for the Big-Block Modifieds. Also, all competing drivers will be admitted FREE in the pits.
Then on Saturday, August 16 will be another “Fan Appreciation Night as grandstand admission will be just $5 for all people 14 and over! It’ll be another “Steel Valley Thunder program.
