(Hartford, OH)…After sunshine graced Sharon Speedway throughout the day and into the early evening, rain bands dropped off Lake Erie taking a direct aim at Sharon Speedway midway through preliminary action on Saturday night washing out the scheduled "Steel Valley Thunder" opener for the third straight week. Rain checks will be good for the next two events in addition to the next Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Championship event on July 22 when the 2016 "Apple Festival Nationals" make-up feature will be added.
A big field of 50 Penn-Ohio Stocks turned out with their heat races going to Andy Buckley, Rob Shook, Curt J. Bish, Rusty Moore, and Rusty Martz. Subbing for Jimmy Weller III, Peter Britten dominated the first heat race for the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Big-Block Modifieds, while Rex King won the second heat race. Rocky Kugel won the opening heat event for the Precise Racing Products/HTMA RUSH Sportsman Modifieds before the rains came. There were 25 RUSH Mods on hand. The Summit Racing Equipment Econo Mods never hit the speedway other than their warm-ups.
Coming up next on Saturday, May 20 will be a "Steel Valley Thunder" program presented by Mark Thomas Ford featuring the Big-Block Modifieds, Stock Cars, Econo Mods, Junior Sprints for kids plus the E-Mods along with their $3,000 to-win 2016 "Apple Festival Nationals" make-up feature. Ken Schrader will be in action in the E-Mods. The RUSH Sportsman Modifieds will have the night off.
Pits open at 4 p.m. with grandstands at 5 and racing at 7. Grandstand admission is $10 for those 14 and over. Patio seating upgrades are just $5 and fan suite upgrades are just $20 over the cost of general admission. To reserve either for weekly shows in advance, call the track office Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Special events can be purchased online. As always, children under 13, parking, and camping is always FREE! Pit passes are $30. Sharon has a no carry-in cooler policy.
