$10,000 awaits Saturday's "Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals" winner along with $2,000 for Econo Mods; Open practice & King of the Hill to get things u

(Hartford, OH)…For the second straight year, Sharon Speedway is primed to host the area's richest Stock Car event in history this Saturday night (September 7).  After being rained out back on June 15, the second annual "Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals" presented by Can-Am will feature the Homak Penn-Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series racing for $10,000 to-win, while the Summit Racing Equipment Econo Mods have been added to the card this year racing for a record payoff of $2,000 to-win!  An open practice for cars from any and all divisions will get underway on Friday night (September 6) at approximately 7 p.m. followed by a King of the Hill for the Stocks paying $500 to-win, $200 for second.  Racing is set for 7 on Saturday night.

Saturday's 75-lap Stock feature will again pay $10,000 to-win and start 30 cars; however, the purse throughout has been increased over last year's event with $500 just to take the green flag!  There will also be a $1,000 to-win, $125 to-start Non-Qualifier presented by Blue Ox Timber with the winner having the option of taking the $1,000 or transferring to the tail of the feature. 

Qualifying from back on June 14 set up the heat race lineups for the 62-car field; however, new cars will be able to come on Saturday and participate.  New cars will draw pills to determine how they fall into the heat race lineups.  Chris Schneider set a new track record in qualifying with a 17.577 to earn $500 from Zimmer’s Service Center Inc.  Each heat race winner on Saturday will qualify for the dash presented by Razor Sharp Logistics.  The dash will pay $300 to-win, $150 for second, and $50 for third.  Multiple last chance B mains will be run rather than the "alphabet soup" mains from last year to complete the remainder of the feature lineup.      

At last year's "Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals", Brent Johnson fended off Chris Schneider in a near photo finish for his first career Sharon win and the $10,000 prize.  Last year, 81 drivers from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Tennessee participated on Saturday with a total of 96 cars registering for the event.

Thus far this season in Gibson Insurance Agency action, Chris Schneider leads the way with three victories including the $2,000 to-win 2018 "Apple Festival Nationals" make-up feature, which automatically qualified him for Saturday's main event.  The Stocks have produced strong car counts with over full fields of cars allowing them to race for the $700 to-win purse structure on all but one night this season.  It's been a season of drivers ending winless droughts.  On May 18, Bobby Whitling won for the first time at Sharon since 2012.  June 8 saw 2018 champ Chris McGuire end nearly a two-year winless streak.  On June 29, Curt J. Bish ended a four-year winless drought before winning again on August 3 that propelled him to his first track championship.  And most recently, Paul Davis captured his first win in over two years on August 10. 

Hunter Exley leads the Homak Penn-Ohio standings heading into Saturday night by 12 points over Jason Fosnaught.  McGuire, Jackson Humanic, and Bish are third through fifth respectively.  Tim Bish, Rusty Moore, Shaun Hooks, Jeff Broniszewski, and Chris Withers complete the top 10.

The Econo Mods meanwhile had 27 cars on hand with Dwayne Clay setting fast time overall with a 17.970 back on June 14.  Like the Stocks, the heat race lineups are set, but new cars will be permitted to come on Saturday.   The Summit Racing Equipment-sponsored division produced six different winners in seven events this season.  The only repeat winner was new champion, Dustin DeMattia, who won on back-to-back nights on July 27 and August 3.  Kyle Miller won his biggest career race worth $750 on May 11.  Ty Rhoades won the regular season opener the following week.  Eric Wilson picked up an Elite Series victory.  Jacob Eucker was victorious on August 10 and Andy Buckley ended the regular season winning his first career race in the division on August 17. 

For those that did not pre-enter, the cost to enter on Saturday is $200 for the Stocks and $75 for the Econo Mods.  For an entry form, rules, and more information on the event along with the Homak Penn Ohio Series, check out their website at www.pennohioprostocks.com or call 724-730-1623.  One-way driver radios are required; channel 454.000.  AMB/MyLaps transponders are also required.  A limited amount of rentals will be available.   

Camping will open on Thursday at 5 p.m.  Pits will be open throughout the day on Friday and Saturday with pit passes going on sale at 5 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday, while the main grandstands will open at 5 each night.  Practice will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and run until approximately 10.  THERE WILL BE NO WARM-UPS ON SATURDAY NIGHT!  Heat races will get underway at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission on Friday is FREE!  Grandstand admission on Saturday for those 14 and over is $10.  Pit passes on Friday are $20 and $35 on Saturday.  Patio seating upgrades are just $5 and fan suite seating upgrades are just $20 over the cost of general admission; both can be upgraded in the track office on Saturday.  Children under 14, parking, and camping is FREE!  Sharon has a no carry-in cooler policy.
