(Hartford, OH)…After an ultra-successful return by the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars, Sharon Speedway is ready to resume racing action this Saturday night (May 29) as the 92nd anniversary season rolls on. The "Steel Valley Thunder" program will feature the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply UMP Modifieds along with the Terry Bowser Excavating RUSH Sprint Cars, Gibson Insurance Agency Pro Stocks, and the HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds on AM&P Electric Night. Kids power wheels races will be held at intermission. Race time is 7 p.m.
The UMP Mods will make their second of five appearances during the 2021 season on Saturday night. Back on April 24 at the season opener, Dave Hess, Jr. captured his fourth career win. Ty Rhoades charged from 13th to second and will be hungry for the $1,000 payday on Saturday. Joel Watson, who has 28 career Sharon wins, was fourth. The next appearance by the UMP Mods will be on June 19. Sharon is part of the East Region that offers $2,000 to the champion with the top 10 receiving point fund monies, while the national UMP champion will take home $20,000.
After an exciting win last Saturday night by 61-year-old Rod George, the non-wing Pace Performance RUSH Sprint Cars will return for their second of three straight appearances at Sharon presented by Terry Bowser Excavating. The RUSH Sprints have competed four times this year around the circuit with four different winners. Besides George, Gale Ruth, Jr., Chad Ruhlman, and Kevin Ruhlman have also been victorious. Kevin Ruhlman, the son of Chad, was the 2019 RUSH "Futures Cup" champion and will be in action Saturday night after being out of town last Saturday.
There have been seven different RUSH Sprint Car winners in 10 races run all-time at Sharon. Still Chad Ruhlman, the 2018 and 2019 RUSH $5,000 champion, is the only driver with multiple victories at four. Chad is in search of his third $5,000 Equipment Rental Options Weekly Series Championship in four years; however, currently Rod George sits atop the points chase.
After a week off, the Gibson Insurance Agency Pro Stocks return for their third show of the 2021 season. Curt J. Bish, who won the last track championship along with the $10,000 "Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals" in 2019, is off to a hot start winning on April 24 and May 15. Bish has extended his points lead to nine over 2018 champion Chris McGuire. Chase Lambert has been a surprised with a pair of top fives and sits third in points over Hunter Exley and veteran Larry Kugel. This will be the last opportunity to tune-up for Penn-Ohio's "Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals" on June 11-12.
Like the Stocks, the HTMA/Precise Racing Products RUSH Sportsman Modifieds also return for their third show of the 2021 season. Drivers will not only be battling for Sharon points, but also the $3,500 to-win Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Weekly Series and the $1,000 to-win Wedge Motorsports "Route 7 Rumble" Series Championship. Wolbert, who won the May 1 opener at Sharon, currently leads all three point standings. Garrett Krummert won the last time out for the RUSH Mods at Sharon on May 15.
